SARILAYA welcomes participants to this eConference: Sa Pagbangon kay Yolanda:
Paano ibabangon ang mga Programang Pangkalusugan? We thank eHealth Philippines and PCHRD for inviting us to do this Online Conference with us and for the latter in fixing the technical glitches.
We do hope to have a fruitful discussion today. To guide you in your participation, you may refer to the attached file for the Concept of today’s forum.
In this forum, we are taking-off from the assumption that all Yolanda-affected communities are starting from zero at this point, we as health advocates would like to ensure that a framework on preventive healthcare is integrated in the “building back better” policy direction of the government.
Perhaps our resource persons from the Medical Action Group (MAG) and Health Futures can give us some updates on the progress of the rehabilitation and reconstruction work in the health aspect happening in the Yolanda-affected areas. What we currently have are reports from the DOH and WHO team-up for the Health Cluster of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UN-OCHA). Now, we wanted another source of updates that could give another angle in the ongoing work, which may not covered by the UN-OCHA.
We would like to know the real challenges on the ground because its not an easy task to build back better (and safer).
We also hope for HealthJustice to share their High5Life Campaign on Health Promo in this eConference so that we could have an idea whether this can be applied to our Yolanda-affected communities.
For us, we want more than just facilities built. We want good programs and that health promo and preventive healthcare be given a huge part. We want to make everything right and balance – balance between the preventive, curative and rehabilitative services depending on the needs of the people in the communities.
And we want government to listen to the people in terms of their needs and demands for their health.
So let’s all work together.
Thanks.
