eHealth Philippines: Connecting Health Communities
The Institute of Philippine Culture, Ateneo de Manila University (IPC, ADMU) and the Philippine Council for Health Research and Development, Department of Science and Technology (PCHRD, DOST) is officially launching the redeveloped eHealth Philippines web portal, https://ehealth.ph.
The eHealth Philippines (Philippine Electronic Health Information Village) is designed to be an internet-linked community of health generalists and specialists where they can interact with each other on specific health issues, topics and at the same time have access to health-related information resources such as specialty database, journal articles, advisories, and other health-related information. More than just being an online platform for knowledge dissemination, eHealth PH aims of providing an enabling environment for fostering research collaborations, knowledge mobilization, and sectoral convergence among various health communities.
In 2012, eHealth PH was tasked to facilitate stakeholder convergence for the Drug Discovery and Development Program of PCHRD. A consultative meeting of stakeholders identified the thrusts and validated the priority topics for eHealth PH. To date, four online conferences were already conducted at https://ehealth.ph. Two of the four online conferences were on selected natural products namely: Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) and Tawa-Tawa plant (Euphorbia hirta l.). The online conferences aimed to contribute to the on-going dialogues and dissemination of research studies among researchers, research institutions and other stakeholders.
In essence, eHealth PH optimizes the use of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) field to facilitate interaction among health researchers and health communities. Not only does the eHealth PH reduces the geophysical constraints of knowledge mobilization and sectoral convergence but more significantly, it provides a more inclusive venue for health research collaborations and other research undertakings.
